Mirror work affirmations

Updated: Oct 22, 2024

Ahhhhh the mirror, what a beautiful and profound catalyst for change. Mirror work is a method originally developed by teacher Louise Hay, as a beautiful way to get in touch with thyself on a deeper level. The main purpose of mirror work is to develop self-love and self-care which in turn will help your relationship with others. Simply start by looking into the mirror for a set amount of time each day and gently talk to yourself, you can foster a more grounded and connected feeling to yourself, one of forgiveness and honesty.

Why is it so uncomfortable in front of the mirror????? Louise Hay explains in her book Mirror Work:

"The Mirror reflects back to you the feelings you have about yourself. It makes you immediately aware of where you are resisting and where you are open and flowing. It clearly shows you what thoughts you will need to change if you want to have a joyous, fulfilling life."

You can't hide from the mirror. In front of the mirror, we catch an intimate and possibly uneasy glimpse into the connection we have to ourselves. Suddenly the things we feel about ourselves that are hidden down deep in us come out to play. Developing a compassionate relationship to oneself is imperative to gain from this practice.

Mirror work has been know to progress and facilitate our spiritual awakening. As a symbol of truth and clarity, self-realization can be easily accessed thru the act of mirror work. Thru mirror work we are choosing to consciously access the inner layers of our being, we begin removing the blocks and untying the knots preventing our growth and evolving our soul .

Mirror work and meeting the inner child

Looking deeper and becoming even more vulnerable exposes the neglected parts of our inner selves that make us feel uncomfortable. The inner child is one of the most neglected abandoned inner parts of our souls.. Our inner child is deep in our inner aspect where we retain a sense of childlike wonder, spontaneity, creativity, and joy. It's in all of us:) It also possesses many of our primal core wounds. Learning how to relate to liberate our inner child is crucial to success. When looking into the mirror and connecting with the inner child you could experience waves of sadness as it washes over you. You my also experience excitement or joy as the inner child steps forward to play. Simple gazing at yourself in the mirror and comforting your inner child can be huge in healing your inner child. The more emotions you experience, the more a sacred kind of purging and transformation is happening.

Mirror Work as a Portal into your soul

The eyes are the mirrors to the Soul and mirror work gives you direct access to this core part of your being. Your deeper self is sometimes harder to access. Most people first experience a harsh inner critic serving as a doorkeeper to the deeper psyche. Mindfulness and self-compassion will help in getting past the doorkeeper. This is where self love and becomes vital to work through your insecurities and self-resentments. Mirror work feels like returning home to the truest and most whole aspect of source within you.

Start with whatever regimen will feed your soul where you are at now.

  • Use affirmations that feel true to you

  • Start with 2 minutes every day

  • Do mirror work in private so you aren't disturbed and the doorkeeper is at rest

  • Feel it to heal it

  • Journal about your experience

Guide to getting it done:

1. Discipline........

Can you commit to loving yourself this much?????:) the deepest changes come when you put in the work. Start with 2 mins but up to 10 would be ideal.

2. Time of day that will make you more adapt to do the work. Anytime is a good time to do mirror work!

3. Affirmations are key to successful mirror work! Make your own or choose ones that you resonate with.

Reprogram your mind with thoughts to counteract the negative self talk that we participate in throughout the day.

Affirmations I love are:

  • I'm learning to love you

  • I'm willing to take care of you

  • I love how thoughtful and caring you are

  • I am worthy of love

  • I am enough

  • I am exactly who I need to be in this moment

  • It's okay for me to feel sad

  • I love the shape of my body

  • I am beautiful

  • I am whole

  • I am fierce and strong

  • I trust my intuition

  • I am open and receptive

If making your own affirmations, phrase them in a positive way and offer love to yourself

4. Repeat Repeat Repeat

Repeat your affirmations to yourself at least ten times, whether our loud or in your head. The more you repeat your affirmation with love the deeper the impact will make. Set a realistic number and stick with it.

Look directly in the eyes!!!! And use your own name, this sends a powerful message to the unconscious!

5, Love yourself as the emotions are released.

It's normal and okay to feel upset. If you need to cry, then cry, let yourself feel the emotions.

You are releasing old ways of being and that is fucking powerful.

Give yourself a hug or place your hand over your heart.

To help you process any strong feelings and ground yourself into your body, try placing a gentle palm over your heart.

Now get to work and journal your results and let me know if you need my help I'm here for you!!!
